Quit Smoking - The Right Way

If you are anything like the estimated 70% of smokers in the United States, you want to quit smoking.

In 2004 there where 44.5 million smokers in the United States alone, more than 31 million of these want to stop smoking.

If you have ever tried to quit smoking, you know how hard it can be. Well, I am here to tell you, it doesn't have to be that way.

So, how do I quit you say.

Good question.

If you where to believe the ads you see on TV, you need to buy prescription drugs, nicotine patches, and whatnot, then use these expensive ?magic? solutions for up to several months, then finally you MIGHT be able to call yourself a non-smoker (if you are lucky).

But if I where you, I wouldn't waste my money. Been there, done that.

The single biggest reason people fail to quit smoking is that they don't understand why they are smoking, what keeps them lighting up cigarette after cigarette. You have probably heard many times that the nicotine in cigarettes is the cause of your addiction.

Sure, nicotine is somewhat addictive, but it is not a strong addiction, and beating it is NOT hard at all.

The reason people fail to stop smoking is their mind, and once you have the information and understand how your mind works when it comes to stop smoking, quitting will not be hard at all.

Knowledge is power, and when you understand how this works, you will not need to buy any pills or patches, you could be a non-smoker in just a few hours.

Some Methods You Can Use To Quit Smoking

There are numerous ways that people use to stop smoking. People do actually succeed in stopping smoking but the same method of stopping does not work for everyone and sometimes the same method may finally work only after a second or third attempt at it is tried.

There are many and various ways that people can use to quit smoking. Hundred of thousands maybe millions of people have succeeded in quitting the cigarettes. However, not all methods would be suitable for everyone. On the average many people only succeed to quit smoking on the second or third attempt.

Some of the methods of how to quit smoking are discussed below:

Method 1: Willpower

Many people depend or believe that have they willpower quit smoking. It is definitely true that the most important aspect to quit smoking is to have willpower, determination and the genuine want and desire to stop for good. However, you will never know how much willpower you really have unless you are tested.

When the cravings and urge strikes and when circumstances of anger and stress arrive, it will then reveal how much willpower you have. Willpower is to a certain extent derived from your purpose and reason why you want to quit smoking. Look for a strong purpose and reason to quit, and you will have the willpower automatically.

Method 2: Cutting down

By gradually cutting down, the real truth is you are only tampering with your mind for being less dependant on cigarettes. While smoking less cigarettes, you may believe it would be easier for you to quit. However, the addiction is more of a habit and a psychological one than it is a physical addiction.

You may be smoking about 20 cigarettes a day and maybe cutting down to only 3 or 4. The truth is your body only needs 3 or 4 cigarettes a day to easy the addiction. The rest is to satisfy your mental addiction to feel the pleasurable effects of nicotine. If you are using this method, know that you are reducing your mind dependency on cigarettes.

Method 3: Hypnosis

This method makes you realize or just switch perspective with the help of others such as recordings or a doctor or consultant. The fact is that you can reach this point of realization even without hypnosis. You just have to think and change your perspective a little. Hypnosis does not automatically or take away your choice or smoking. It is just a step of realization. The final choice and action is up to you.

Method 4: Zyban

This is actually a prescribed drug as a anti-depressant. It is accidentally discovered that the use of Zyban cause a certain chemical reaction to cause smokers to lose interest in smoking. However, the consuming Zyban does have side effects such as dizziness, and dry mouth, even seizures in less common cases.

Method 5: Nicotine replacement therapies

The perception of undergoing nicotine replacement therapies is to reduce cravings gradually by slowing reducing the level of nicotine in your body. However using gums, patches or sprays still inserts nicotine into your blood. You will still need willpower and the decision to quit smoking before you think that you can fully depend on nicotine replacement therapies.

Method 6: Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient art of medical treatment originated from China. In involves inserting thin needles to certain specific acupuncture points in your body. This will alter the energy flow in your body. Acupuncture in the case of quit smoking treatment will reduce your cravings as claimed by people who have undergone the treatment.

Method 7: Fake cigarette

This act as a substitute for the habit and behavior of smoking but without the intake of nicotine and other chemicals. It would help people who have very strong and routine habit that they feel it is hard to shake off. Other than holding a fake cigarette, you can also keep yourself busy with other activities to avoid or break your routine habit.

Method 8: Make your decision a conviction

Visit patients who contracted cancer from smoking and ask them about their experiences and regrets. Visit doctors and ask them to show you how lungs are like when someone has lung cancer. Turn your decision into a belief and make it real.

Many a times, we often come across people puffing and enjoying smoking cigarette. Do we feel good when the smoke containing chemicals, insecticides, explosives enters our respiratory system? The answer is going to be no. Then what is the reason that the person who smokes relishes each puff?

There are many reasons; a smoker gives, such as having the feeling that he looks cool or smart while smoking or smoking shall help in weight loss. Some people also give the excuse that they are relieved of the stress while smoking.

All these are myths because smoking can only reduce the life span of a person and lead other person inhaling the smoke prone to lung cancer. It is easy to quit smoking if a person wishes to do so.

The best method is to stop smoking with the help of one's own will power. It is possible by working out a planned therapy but if it becomes hard to quit then medications are also available that help in quitting smoking.

Chantix is one such effective smoking cessation pill that helps quitting smoking easily. It works by blocking the brain receptors that help in continued addiction and lessens the cravings to smoke. Chantix has Varenicline (as the tartrate salt) as its main component, which is a white to off white and slightly yellow solid powder soluble in water.

Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Quit Smoking

Everybody tells you to quit smoking. I tell you to understand smoking. If you understand it, you will definitely have no hesitation in quitting it at the earliest. You are entertaining a demon between your lips. You think that you burn him. Yes, externally you burn him. Before that, he burns you internally.

There are many reasons, but let me explain to you about the 5 strong reasons, why you should quit smoking.

You know, cigarette contains nicotine, but you do not know what nicotine contains for you! It has the ultimate attraction for you and therefore it will cause the ultimate damage that it can do for your body and mind! It is tough to quit smoking. But it is worth the try. Your life is at stake! I think, you have just one life to live!

Reason number one, I wish you to live longer and this is possible if you quit smoking. By this gracious act, your standard of living and standard of life will improve.

Why are you extending the invitation with your outstretched hands to lung cancer, heart attack and stroke? Don't you love your life?

Agreed for a while, without the actual agreement, that smoking is your birthright. But is the birthright of your wife and children, is to be victims of passive smoking?

The smoke coils that you artistically dispatch within the four walls of your house, are dangerous to their health. Passive smokers suffer more than the active smokers.

You say you have enough financial problems, but can't you at least delete one of them? Why do you squander money to get your health damaged? Have you any time made sincere study regarding the effects of smoking? The diseases will burn your body within. Why do you invite such type of sad end? Spend the money saved out of quitting smoking for some right causes. Your own fruits and juices for example!

And now, a special warning for pregnant women. You wish to have a healthy baby. It is perhaps possible only if you quit smoking. A baby in the arms of the smoking mother! This is definitely one unwelcome sight!

So, do not postpone smoking cessation. Do not extend open invitation to lung cancer.

Your escape from the heart disease is also ruled out if you persist with your smoking habit. The first action of the cigarette smoke is to decrease the supply to the heart. Heart rate will increase and so also the blood pressure. The chances of blood clotting are more. The arteries harden and damage to the skin is also a distinct possibility.

Do you still wish to smoke? If yes, shall I pity you or condemn you?

Quit Smoking: Start Your Journey with a Journal

If you're a smoker, chances are you've tried to quit many times or deep down inside you've felt you should quit for obvious reasons pertaining to your health, but have no idea where to start.

I've smoked for 22 years and spent over 10,000 dollars trying to quit smoking and finally I am proud to stay, I am a "non-smoker." Yes, there is hope for you!

Let the truth be known; it's very hard! However, it can be done with the right tools and strategies. There is no way I can share everything I used to help me kick a 22 year smoking habit but what I can do for sure, is share one major tip/strategy I used and use to this day to live a smoke free life.

Start a journal. This can be an online journal such as a blog or a paper journal which happens to be my weapon of choice. I know, I know, every self-help guru say keep a journal. Well I'm not a Guru and it's working for me so please stay with me here.

I know, everyone says "keep a journal" but not many go into details about the "why and how" so we really don't feel motivated to start recording or life. This is one of the key distinctions I've made in the past. I also noticed that it was a big reason for not starting my journal. So keep reading because I'm going to help you over the "journal hump."

Say you're thinking right now about wanting to quit smoking, along comes other thoughts like "I'm too stressed to think about that now. Oh, God, where would I start, but what will I do if I can't, what if I get fat?" These thoughts are clouded emotions that push your first thought of quitting smoking further and further away.

Keeping a journal will help you take all the emotion out of your daily thoughts and help you get really clear on what you want and how you're going to get it.

It's ok to have all kinds of thoughts associated to your quit smoking thought; you'll just want to write them all down in your journal. Then go through the list of thoughts and ask yourself, Are these real concerns that need to be thought out and taken seriously, or, are they just excuses my mind is playing on me to protect me from experiencing pain that comes with quitting smoking?" That's right; your mind will come up with all kinds of excuses to avoid quitting and to protect you! Just say "thank you for sharing!"

A paper journal is a black and white, pure logic system and why I like it. This is exactly what is needed when taking on such an outrageous task such as quitting smoking.

There are tons of books and seminars on keeping a journal so let's keep it really simple. For now, grab a note pad and start a list of why you need to stop smoking. As you write remember you're mind will start playing games by coming up with excuses, but don't give in! You may want to write at the top of the note pad, "My Why Reasons I'm quitting smoking." Everything I've studied about getting your out comes in life stress the "why" first not the how so write as much as you can.

Planning To Quit Smoking

Millions of people smoke, and to many, particularly those that have been smoking for some time, the prospect of quitting seems daunting. An addiction to nicotine is a serious one, and is multifaceted: there is a physical component, in that your body craves the nicotine the cigarettes contain, and a psychological one, in that many habits and situations become associated with cigarettes for the smoker. For these reasons it is important that you come up with a plan of attack in order to quit smoking: although the cold-turkey technique works for some people, the vast majority of smokers will have success only with a more comprehensive plan.

When you first consider the prospect of quitting smoking, it's probably going to seem far fetched, but keep in mind that thousands of people - people that are no different from you - quit smoking every year. If they can do it, there's no reason that you can't. Many smokers also feel that after a certain age it is "too-late" to quit smoking. Simply put, this isn't true, and should not be used as an excuse to avoid an attempt to quit smoking: the health benefits of quitting smoking begin the very day you stop.

Before you actually have your last cigarette, begin to build up your willpower. Your willpower is going to be your most important tool in quitting, and it's very unlikely that you will be successful without it. Spend some time thinking of the reasons you want to quit smoking. Learn about the health benefits of quitting, for both yourself and the people around you. Do some math and come up with some figures for the amount of money you'll save by not buying cigarettes, and think of something you'll use that money for.

Once you've built up your willpower, it's time to have your last cigarette. To keep your spirits up, understand that the human body is incredibly resilient, and your health will improve as soon as you stop smoking - literally. 8 hours after your last cigarette, carbon monoxide levels and oxygen levels in your blood stream will return to normal. At 24 hours after your last cigarette, you statistically reduce your chance of a heart attack. Only 48 hours after your last cigarette, your sense of taste and smell will improve as your nerve endings start growing.

As you continue to stay smoke free, think of the longer-term benefits to quitting in order to keep your willpower up: even after 2 weeks your lung power will begin to increase, and continue to do so over time. Other aspects of your health will continue to improve in various ways. The ultimate motivator should be the knowledge that 15 years after quitting, your risk of death is almost the same as someone who has never smoked - a remarkable fact that illustrates our the human body's surprising ability to restore itself.

By coming up with a concrete plan to quit smoking you will greatly increase your chances of success. Crucial is understanding the important role that your willpower will play in the process, and planning to build up this willpower weeks before you attempt to quit. Once you've stopped you have to keep the strength of this willpower up, and to do so, remind yourself of the health benefits you will be privy to immediately after butting out that last cigarette.

Can Chinese Medicine Help You Quit Smoking?

Addiction is now the biggest preventable killer in Britain, causing 150,000 deaths a year (120,000 tobacco related, 33,000 alcohol related and 1,700 drugs related).
How can Chinese medicine help with addiction?

Chinese medicine has beneficial effects on addiction to various substances. The most commonly treated addictions at AcuMedic clinics are smoking and alcoholism.

Smoking has a detrimental impact on all major systems of the human body, in particular, the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems. In Chinese medical theory, smoking weakens the Lung?s function of commanding the overall movement of Qi, Blood and Meridians, by creating Heat in the Lung and Stomach, which in turn will cause Fire in the Heart and/or stagnation of Liver Qi, hence withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, palpitations, mood swings and restlessness occur.

Chinese medicine can reduce the craving for cigarettes. Studies show that patients after treatment often report a dislike for the smell of tobacco and that the craving stops when they press ear points with herbal seeds on (This is called ear acupuncture where either herbal seeds or metal studs are plastered on to certain points on the ears).

Alcoholism, like smoking, can cause irreversible damage to all major organs in the human body, although a moderate amount of alcohol under certain circumstances can be beneficial for health. Chinese medicine treats any withdrawal symptoms and reduces the craving. It has no side effects.

Acupuncture stimulates detoxification, promotes a heightened sense of relaxation, and encourages endorphin production, which makes it an excellent tool for overcoming addiction. Herbal medicine helps the body to cope with stress, improves circulation and promotes mental and physical alertness.

Treatment for addiction can be effective only if the patient is determined to change. The length of treatment depends on the patient?s response and on the severity and duration of the addiction. Drug addiction can also benefit from Chinese medical treatment.

Claims You Can Quit Smoking

Advanced Laser Solutions Claims You Can Quit Smoking
In One Day

Independent survey results substantiates laser treatment completely removes the physical withdrawal symptoms

Cleveland Ohio. Most smokers will tell you they could quit smoking, overcoming the habits associated with cigarettes, if the physical cravings were removed. The constant nagging of the physical addiction overrides the best of intentions among many smokers who truly want to quit.

Nicotine replacement therapies, antidepressants, hypnotherapy and cold turkey methods have helped some smokers kick the habit. The fail rate is higher than the success rate of these therapies, leaving many a smoker with the heavy feeling of defeat.

Advanced Laser Solutions, located in Garfield Heights Ohio, offers a 20-minute treatment that claims to remove the physical cravings of the cigarette. To a smoker, this claim may sound too good to be true.

Low-level Laser therapy has been safely used with great success in Canada and in Europe for over thirty years. In May of 2003, an Institutional Review Board (IRB) authorized investigational clinical trials using low-level laser therapy in compliance with FDA regulations in the United States. The FDA has already ruled low-level laser therapy as a non-significant risk and the US investigational trials are being funded through patient participation.

After my mother, a smoker for most of her adult life, received this treatment in Canada and successfully quit smoking, I knew this was a viable treatment that could actually change a persons life, says co-owner of Advanced Laser Solutions, Tony Latina. Tony went on to become a Certified Laser Technician (CLT). Peggy Schmidt, LSW, LPCC, CCDC, a Licensed Addictions Counselor joined Tony and together they have opened the first Ohio office.

Tony and Peggy are dedicated to helping those that smoke and want to quit, finally succeed. They offer a full program addressing both the physical and mental addiction to nicotine.

As part of their overall commitment to the effectiveness of the treatment and the clients perception of the treatment, they contracted with an independent survey company, Quality Care Options, LLC (877-620-6448) QCO

The following questions were asked within the confidential survey:

  • The Laser Treatment removed the physical craving for tobacco 100% said Yes
  • My questions about the procedure were answered satisfactorily 100% said Yes
  • I feel the ongoing support and ability to receive reinforcement treatments have been of value to me 100% said yes
  • I believe this treatment lived up to its promises 100% said Yes
  • I now consider myself a Non-Smoker 90% said Yes 7% said Unsure 3% said No

Advanced Laser Solutions received Certification as a Senior Approved Service and is included within an exclusive network of services recommended to seniors, family members, health care professionals and employers. Advanced Laser Solutions far surpassed the required 90% customer satisfaction rating. Senior Approved Services
