Quit Smoking - An Essential Asset To Successfully Stop Smoking

The number one asset and resource that anyone has when making a change to their lifestyle, is their decision to do something different. This is never truer than when successfully stopping smoking.

Attempting to stop smoking for the wrong reason is virtually always doomed to fail. One of the wrong reasons might be convenience. What I mean by this is that you decide to stop but not because you are necessarily ready or committed to stopping it is just that a convenient situation has occurred for you. Let me explain...

A friend or partner husband or wife who is a smoker makes the suggestion that it would be a good idea to stop together. On the face of it this seems to be a great idea because you can support each other in remaining stopped and there is this nice feeling of doing something together... camaraderie or team spirit you might call it.

Unfortunately, in reality although both participants know they ought to stop smoking at some point in time, usually on this occasion it usually means that one person is really ready to stop but the other is going along with it because it is convenient or they have got caught up in this being a good idea without giving it too much thought.

Then what happens is that the person who hasn't really made up their mind to stop, will at some point try and persuades or cajoles the other into just having that one. If they succeed in persuading the other to have one, they will both fail. It is a kind of collusion to smoke, just as those of us colluded to smoke the very first time when we were young. In fact we did it because our peers did it and we wanted to be part of that crowd... accepted. Here is an example of the same influences happening again.

That is why it is vital to stop smoking for your own good reasons and not to do it out of convenience. The convenience aspect will often come into the equation when someone decides to stop smoking with the help of a hypnotherapist. Let us say the wife has decided to do this. But the wife, although motivated to stop smoking now, will not have had hypnotherapy before and may have some anxiety about it. A way of overcoming that anxiety is to encourage the husband to quit with the aid of hypnosis too. Here again one person is persuading the other to quit and with a particular method, when they haven't really reached their time and decision to quit.

Any hypnotherapist who naturally wants his or her clients to succeed will need to ensure that both husband and wife really do want to stop and have made up their minds that they want to do it right now. This being the case, then doing it together can be a real asset as the sense of doing it with others can strengthen their resolve to stick to their decision.

I certainly emphasise to people who come along in pairs for quit smoking hypnotherapy sessions, whether mates, husband and wife, or partners, that they should be there for each other to keep to their decision to quit smoking for good and not to collude together to smoke.

Quitting Cigarette Smoking or Any Addiction-How Much Do Your Habits, Beliefs and Self-Image Hurt?

Just how powerfully are your habits and beliefs and self image hurting your chances to quit smoking? How much do they control our addictions? How can we use their power to replace our self-hurtful addictions with empowering addictions. Whether your addiction is cigarette smoking, or gambling, or wasting your life away watching tv.

After failing to quit smoking miserably at least a dozen times - being sucked back into that destructive habit - addiction - time and time again - going through the agony, the cravings, the anger, over and over - how was I able to turn off my smoking addiction like a light switch? From being totally locked to my cigarette smoking addiction to being totally and completely free of it? Like it never happened?

What could do that?

Since the quit smoking program I used, dealt directly with habits, beliefs and self-image, it begs the question, ?just how much do habits, beliefs and self-image control our addictions?" Perhaps more importantly "how can we get them moving us in the direction we truly want to go"?

One self-improvement author I've studied, Anthony Robbins, has overwhelming examples graphically showing us this power of belief, in his books Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within.

Could there be enough power in belief to actually affect something a certain as arthritis? In Unlimited Power, Robbins recalls the experience Norman Cousins had when visiting the great musician, Pablo Casals.

At this time Casals had arthritis ?so debilitating that he needed help dressing?, as well as having emphysema. In fact, Casals had to struggle to get to and arrange himself on his piano bench, his hands swollen and fingers clenched.

But when he began to play, Cousins described Casals amazing transformation. ?The fingers slowly unlocked?his back straightened?he seemed to breath more freely.? ??his body was no longer stiff and shrunken but supple and graceful and completely freed?? Such was the belief that Casals had in the renewing power of ?music?.

What about the chemical balance in your body? Can belief alone actually make measurable changes? Robbins notes the case of a women with a split personality. In one personality she had normal blood sugar levels. But in her other personality, where she believed herself to be diabetic, ?her whole physiology changed to that of a diabetic?.

What about the affects of pharmaceutical drugs? How much is their affect on us decided by our "beliefs"?

There's an answer to this in a study of two groups of people with bleeding ulcers, Robbins refer's to. One group was told they were getting a drug that ?absolutely produced relief?. The other group was told their drug was experimental, and the results were uncertain. The outcome?

?70% of the first group experienced significant relief from their ulcers?, while only 25% of the second group had similar results?.

But wait! Here's the truly amazing part - all the participants of the test, both groups, ?received a drug with no medicinal properties at all?. The only difference was their beliefs! Take a minute to let that sink in.

In Awaken The Giant Within, Robbins recalls an experiment with 100 medical students supposedly testing two new drugs.

One group was given a pill they were told was a super-stimulant. The other group was told they were given a pill that was a super-tranquilizer. They were actually given the opposite of what they were told they had.

Fully half the students had physical responses exactly as they expected - what they "believed" would happen! Exactly the opposite of what their bodies should have experienced!

What they believed was more powerful than the chemicals in their systems!

Robbins also refers to Dr. Bernie Siegel, a Yale professor and best selling author; and research he?d done with multiple personality disorder patients. Dr. Siegel's studies document things like a patients eye color changing as their personality changed, physical marks disappearing and reappearing, diabetes or high blood pressure coming and going depending on the patients beliefs about which personality is occurring.

So there are many, many examples of a tremendous power in belief.

It looks like maybe the best, most effective way to quit smoking is to get your beliefs, your habits and your self image working for your goal to get rid of your smoking addiction. To help perhaps with any addiction.

And here's maybe the most important point of this whole discussion - since this is something "in you" - a part of you - you can take direct control!

Imagine - "you in control"! Learn how to manipulate your beliefs and self-image and you can exercise great control over your habits and your addictions! Perhaps beyond your wildest dreams!

Joseph Casey developed a powerful system "The Breakthrough System for Becoming a Non-Smoker" and "The Secret Silent Litany" - putting you in control of your belief's, self-image and smoking habit so now you can feel like a "life-time non-smoker"!

After failing to quit smoking over a dozen times he discovered 4 powerful mind-sets and a unique delivery system, that destroys your smoking habit - resets your beliefs about smoking and corrects your self-image about you as a smoker instantly!

Quit Smoking with Exercise

There is an overload of available pills and potions to help you Quit Smoking. If you are really determined to do it, exercise may be your answer, and it's free of charge too! A healthy diet, and exercise will have you on the road to recovering from your addiction.

Whenever you feel cravings for cigarettes, you can become irritable, angry, depressed and obsessed with thoughts of smoking. You can turn into someone stuck in a bad mood and unable to see your way clear unless you give in and back step by having a cigarette. You need to get through the tough times and they will become fewer and farther between. Think of yourself like seeds planted by a farmer. He waits impatiently for the seeds to sprout, and then one day just as they are about to poke the tip of their first leaf out for the sun, he gives up and rakes over the patch. Sometime when we think we can't wait any longer or last any longer, and that is exactly the time there is going to be a major breakthrough if you just hang in there.

Exercise is the answer to quitting smoking for so many reasons. It raises endorphins and increases oxygen to the blood, two things smokers are lacking during withdrawals. No matter how bad you are feeling, if you sweat it out for a while or even just go for a brisk walk, you will have a new perspective and fresh lease on life.

Every time you overcome and get through cravings, you will feel a sense of achievement and satisfaction. Don't ever look at smoking as a reward for doing well, as this is just a way the addiction will try to trick you into having another cigarette. Every time you catch yourself thinking about smoking and it is possible for you to exercise, then do it! You will improve fitness, feel much happier than ever before and will also introduce a new and positive habit in place of an old negative one.

When you start a new exercise regime, you automatically feel like a new person. You will be sweating more so you will clear nasty nicotine toxins from your body rapidly. The extra oxygen intake will assist your lungs in cleaning and clearing, and your overall energy levels will increase. Your skin will look healthier and you will feel more outgoing. This will give you the desire and energy to do other things that will also contribute to you creating your new life away from addictions.

You will also start to look different to others. A combination of quitting smoking and starting to exercise will make anyone who knows you notice your new found sparkle. When someone makes a change like quitting smoking, it is obvious to everyone something is going on that is working for you.

Quit Smoking - The Fake Smoking Mirage

The Hidden Enemy

If you are a smoker, you are probably already aware that your life is conditioned by your smoking habits. And as with any other habit, you are probably finding hard to quit.

Quitting any habit requires time, exercise and willpower; furthermore, you have to win the hidden enemy: the desire to continue with your beloved habit.

How does this work? Well, trying to quit will expose you to two big temptations?

The First Temptation: Relax After Withdrawal

If you persist in your quit smoking purpose, you?ll experience soon withdrawal symptoms.

These symptoms may not last long, but they will get enough of your resources to let you exhausted. This will make you restless and exasperated and will trigger your desire to be calm again.

The Trap

Of course your mind will address you towards your cigarettes, just to feel at ease. Well, you will feel at ease if you smoke, and this will trigger the trap: you?ll think that trying to quit smoking has a negative effect on you and smoking is going to restore your feeling of control.

The trap is now done: you increase your psychological dependence on smoking, and your next trial will be harder.

The Second Temptation: Easiness After Failure

After a few of such kind of experiences, you?ll start thinking that smoking is helping your survival. At this stage you start to develop excuses to retain it.

The point is that you find so hard to quit that you find much easier to not quit. If you start failing in your purpose to quit smoking, you are going to build a few reasons to have the easy road taken instead of the difficult one.

In a short time you are going to surround yourself of some excuses to not quit.

The Vicious Amplifier

Nicotine will be this temptation amplifier. It will act as the vicious circle engine. As any addictive drug, you?ll have to get more to experience the same level of effects of the previous time.

You?ll have to smoke more to have the same relief you got the first time smoking after the first or the second temptation.

The game is now complete: nicotine will hold you in such a way that you?ll begin craving for more and more of your dose.

Your Ally

If you are trapped in these games, the simple way is to use your resources to come out from the same game.

Taking with your subconscious mind is one of the best effective ways. Discover how to Stop Smoking With Your Mind at my website.

Tips to Quit Smoking

A simple ?home made? poll will reveal the most smokers are aware of the risks derived from their addiction. They in fact know that they are more exposed than non-smokers to cardiac diseases, vascular incidents, lung cancer, emphysema and less physical capabilities due to what they call ?lack of air?. These are just some of the problems caused by this nasty habit, but should suffice to get serious about quitting smoking.

About 70 percent of smoker adults decide or have decided sometime to quit smoking, but didn?t make it. Why can?t they be successful?

The key is to have the proper motivation and follow a series of recommendations that will help you achieve definitive results. For instance, there are a lot of smokers that have given up that habit after suffering a heart attack. For them, the desire of being alive became a strong motivation after being so close to death.

There is people who tries to reduce the amount of cigarettes they smoke, hoping to eliminate the need of them in a progressive way. Sadly, it?s not uncommon for them to be smoking again just the same quantity of cigarettes than they smoked before, or even more. This happens because of the highly addictive power of nicotine. To eliminate dependence, the best thing to do is eliminate nicotine from the body all at one time.

Other people choose certain low-nicotine cigarettes. But that is almost worse, for they will eventually end up smoking many more cigarettes just to experience the same feeling of satisfaction, thus inhaling much more smoke each time. Those cigarettes may be low in nicotine, but their smoke contains a whole lot more carcinogens and toxins. Not finding enough satisfaction with each smoke leads to an increase in anxiety, and also the amount of cigarettes consumed. These people most frequently end up failing in their attempts to quit smoking.

There are some helpful keys to successfully quit this habit. The first step, as with any other addiction and, in general, any problem in life, is acceptance. There are still many smokers that unconsciously say that they don?t depend on nicotine and that they can stop smoking any time they want. This constitutes a denial that keeps them from achieving their goal. It is necessary to acknowledge that this is an addiction, and therefore a real problem.

The second step is top find a motivation that really boosts our desire to abandon tobacco forever. There is no magical formula here; the immense diversity of interests and values of people makes what is a perfect stimulus and motivation for one person totally useless for others. It?s in this step that a particular problem or situation may be useful to find the best possible motivation for each person. Many times love for a related one is the best motivation; that is the case of pregnant women that quit smoking for that child they are carrying.

The third step is to accept the magnitude of the goal set. Nicotine dependence is an addiction, and getting out of it will be a hard task for sure. There will be some times in which determination and willing to quit smoking will be threatened by intense desires to light a cigarette. Some symptoms can even resemble the abstinence syndrome often present on quitting alcoholics. It is up to each smoker to evaluate the effort that this process will demand and the real chances of success. It?s useful to know that these symptoms are not so hard on people with an adequate diet, and some smokers start taking natural food supplements to help them out through the hard walk into a healthy life.

Quitting Smoking : Why Women's Health May Benefit More

There are a lot of reasons to quit smoking. We all know the life threatening reasons, but we don?t necessarily understand the the full impact that smoking has on our bodies and minds, and possibly even on others around us.

Women especially are susceptible to some of the more hidden dangers of smoking, and may actually benefit in different ways than men when it comes to smoking cessation.

For example, many women probably do not even know this, but lung cancer is now killing more women every year than breast cancer. That?s right, lung cancer is actually more deadly to a woman than breast cancer, which is by far more talked about in women?s health than lung cancer.

Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer since nearly 90% of all cases are traced directly to smoking, so it?s important that women really understand the health benefits of quitting smoking.

There are actually a lot more health issues that a woman needs to think about if she is a smoker as well. For example, most contraceptive pills carry warnings on them that the patient should not take the contraceptive birth control pill if she is a smoker.

Her risk of developing heart problems is greatly increased if she is smoking while on the pill, since smoking increases blood pressure, and the pill is known to also increase blood pressure. This creates a double hazard for heart issues.

Another concern may be for a woman?s children. Children many times can develop asthma and other types of breathing problems if the child is exposed to cigarette smoke at a young age. This is also a concern for men, since they are not exempt from this rule either!

There are also a myriad of other health problems, inconveniences and even just ?cosmetic? reasons that a woman may want to consider smoking cessation in order that she may be her ?best self?.

These don?t necessarily fall into the category of life threatening or imminent dangers, but they certainly can affect your quality of life, as well as your appearance, which is held in high regard in today?s aesthetically concerned society. These additional health and well being benefits to smoking cessation are as follows :

1.) Your skin is greatly affected by smoking, and not in a good way as you can probably imagine. As we age, our skin cell turnover tends to slow down. Smoking actually speeds the process of this slower turnover up, making us essentially age faster.

Add to this the fact that smoking essentially robs our body of oxygen and creates more free radicals, which are skin?s number one enemy and aging?s number one comrade, and you have a recipe for accelerated aging, and sagging, colorless skin.

Most women see a marked improvement in the tone, clarity and firmness of their skin just a few weeks after they quit smoking, especially if they were a heavy smoker.

2.) Your teeth and mouth will thank you. Smoking not only gives you bad breath, but it also turns your teeth yellow, or sometimes even brown from nicotine residue and tabacco staining.

3.) Quitting smoking can greatly help with your mental state. What do I mean? I mean that smoking may seem at first like it is a relaxant, since it tends to immediately feel like it is relieving tension and anxiety once the cigarette is in your mouth and you begin to inhale. Contrary to this belief that cigarettes "calm" you, studies have shown that in the long run smoking actually increases anxiety.

We all know that depression and anxiety tend to go hand in hand, so quitting smoking may also greatly benefit a woman?s psyche.

4.) No more coughing, weezing, and possibly even a reduction in allergies. If you quit smoking, chances are you will breathe a lot easier.

It takes a lot less time for your lungs to heal than you think. Studies have shown that even the most blackened smoker?s lungs have made full recoveries within just a few months after they have quit smoking.

Quit Smoking - For Your Health's Sake

Quit Smoking - For Your Health's Sake by John Mac

In the US it is estimated that 30% of the 570,000 cancer deaths in 2005 were caused by smoking.

In the UK smoking kills approx. 114,000 per year or 300 per day which equates to 20% of deaths.

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the US , UK & Australia.

Approx. 45.4 million Americans are addicted to tobacco, 1 in 4 adults & 1 in 5 teens are smokers.

In the UK smoking causes 80% of all lung cancers & 80% of all deaths from bronchitis & emphysema. 17% of deaths by heart disease are due to smoking. & 17% of cancer deaths are related to smoking.

In Australia 20% of all deaths & 80% of lung cancers are caused by smoking.

Smokers who smoke between 1 & 14 cigarettes a day are 8 times more likely to die from lung cancer. Smokers who smoke 25 or more a day are 25 times more likely to die from lung cancer.

1 in 2 lifetime smokers will die from their habit & half of these in middle age.

If you are not convinced to quit smoking by the statistics above then maybe if you knew how your smoking affected others, including your children, you might just change your mind.

Approx 4000 deaths per year from heart disease in the US are due to secondary or passive smoking.

Approx 3000 lung cancer deaths are caused by passive smoking.

Children of smokers are at increased risk from asthma attacks, sudden infant death syndrome & middle ear infections.

Pregnant women exposed to smoking are likely to have babies with lower weights.

Children exposed to smoking are more likely to suffer from respiratory infections and have slower developing lungs.

More than 17,000 children under the age of five are admitted to hospital in the UK every year due to the effects of passive smoking.

So even if you can't give up for yourself, how about for those around you AND especially your children.

Giving up smoking is on of the most beneficial things you can do. Unfortunately the insidious nature of nicotine addiction makes giving up smoking one of the most difficult things you can do. In fact in the UK the Royal College of Physicians concluded in a report that nicotine addiction is as addictive as drugs such as heroin & cocaine.

However there is some good news, 46 Million Americans are former smokers.

Quit Smoking: 21 Shocking Smoking Facts, The Tobacco Companies Don't WantYou To Know

Smoking is a global problem. It is estimated that one in three adults smoke,
with over 1 billion people smoking worldwide. The majority of these smokers reside
in countries on the low end to the middle of the socioeconomic spectrum. Of this
majority, about 80% live in low and middle-income countries. The total number of
smokers worldwide is expected to keep on increasing each year.

The worldwide popularity of tobacco use varies by social class, historical era,
and culture. Historically, smoking had been a pastime of the rich. However, this
trend has changed dramatically in recent decades. It appears that financially advantaged
men in wealthier countries have been smoking less in recent times.

The World Health Organization has been studying smoking trends and statistical
patterns across the globe and has uncovered the following statistics:

1) Eastern Europe has a particularly high rate of smoking, with up to 59% of
adult males smoking. Also, significantly more women smoke in Eastern Europe than
in East Asia and the Pacific Region.

2) Most people who smoke, begin smoking before they are 25 years old. Worldwide
observations suggest that people are stating to smoke at a much younger age. World
Health Organization studies reveal that the majority of smokers in affluent countries;
begin in their teens.

Smoking In The US

How do Americans compare to the rest of the world when it comes to smoking? It
may come as no surprise to hear that Americans are no better than anyone else. According
to the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics:

3) In the US, it is estimated that 25.6 million men (25.2%) and 22.6 million
women (20.7%) are smokers. These smokers face a higher risk of heart attack and
stroke. Here are the latest estimates for smokers aged 18 and above:

4) Studies reveal that smoking popularity is significantly higher among people
with 9-11 years of education (35.4%) compared with those with more than 16 years
of education (11.6%).

5) There appears to be a correlation between a country's standard of living,
level of education, and income and the number of people who have quit smoking. The
more and better-informed people are, the more likely they are to quit smoking.

6) People living below the poverty level (33.3%) are much more likely to start
smoking.

7) Among whites, 25.1% of men and 21.7% of women smoke.

8) Among black or African Americans, 27.6% of men and 18% of women smoke.

9) Among Asians, 21.3% of men and 6.9% of women smoke.

10) Among Hispanics/Latinos, 23.2% of men and 12.5% of women smoke.

11) Among American Indians/Alaska Natives, 32% of men and 36.9% of women smoke.

12) A shocking1 out of every 5 five deaths is caused by tobacco

13) It is estimated that Tobacco is responsible for 400,000 deaths in the US
every single year.

14) Cigarettes are responsible for about 25% of deaths from residential fires,
causing nearly 1,000 fire-related deaths and 3,300 injuries each year.

15) Tobacco is blamed for many serious cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases

16) Nicotine and tobacco are some of the most potent carcinogens and are responsible
for the majority of all cancers of the lung, larynx, trachea, esophagus and bronchus.

17) Smoking tobacco is known to produce cancer in the pancreas, kidney, bladder,
and the cervix

18) Because tobacco reduces blood flow, nicotine addiction has been proven to
cause impotency.

19) If you smoke, the risk of respiratory illnesses is high. This could lead
to pulmonary diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia,
which are responsible for some 85,000 every year.

20) Children and adolescents who are active smokers will have increasingly severe
respiratory illness, as they grow older

21) Smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage and fetal growth
retardation. It also causes about 5-6% of prenatal deaths, 17-26% of low-birth-weight
births, and 7-10% of pre-term deliveries.

If you don't want to quit smoking after reading these shocking figures, you really
need to get your head examined. You know in your heart, what's the right thing to
do. Make a firm decision to quit today, and stick to it!

Crowns.

Many people who have discolored teeth opt to use a crown as a remedy. Just as
the name applies, this is a prosthetic device that covers the tooth. Sometimes a
tooth may have a large filling and there is very little tooth left to support the
filling. This would be an effective treatment for that situation. They are often
used in conjunction with the dental implants we discussed above. A crown makes your
tooth stronger as well as prettier!

Bonding.

Bonding is a cosmetic treatment for teeth that involves placing tooth colored
bonding material directly to the surface of the tooth using resin. First the tooth
is prepared by slightly etching the enamel. This is done in order to give the bonding
material mechanical retention allowing the bonding material to adhere to the tooth
properly. Then the bonding material is applied, shaped and sculpted. A ultraviolet
laser light is used to harden the resin material. When the process is complete the
tooth is polished to a high shine.

Bonding is also used now for fillings. In fact, it is favored over the old silver
(amalgam) fillings because the bonding resin can be matched to the rest of your
tooth color. The downside to bonding, is the expense. Bonding is more expensive
to silver. The bonding material is also porous making it a poor choice for smokers
as it will yellow.

This is considered a permanent procedure because of removing small amounts of
the natural tooth enamel.

Enamel shaping.

This process is often done in conjunction with bonding. The enamel is sometimes
removed or reshaped. Shaping allows the dentist to sculpt chipped, cracked or broken
teeth using bonding material as discussed above. In both procedures the catalyst
is usually done with a laser light which insures that the material is securely merged
with the natural tooth material.
